Sofia Matsagou has graduated from the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens with the highest distinction (Piano Soloist Diploma with 'Excellent Unanimously and 1st Prize') in the class of Professor Agathe Leimoni. She continued further studies in Schola Cantorum of Paris, in the class of the same professor, obtaining the Diplôme Superieur and the Diplôme de Virtuosite ("mention Très Bien à l'unanimité"). She also holds the Diplomas of Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue (all with mention 'A'). She is the winner of many national and international competitions such as ''The Muse'' (1st Prize), X.O.N Piano Competition (1st Prize) and also in the ''Pozzo di Gotto'' International Competition in Sicily (2nd Prize) among others.
She has performed in popular concert halls and venues all over Greece, in Athens (Megaron Hall, Badminton Theater, Half Note Jazz Club, Athenaeum, Parnassus Hall etc.), and also Poros, Corfu, Tinos islands, Kozani and Nafplio. She has also performed at major festivals of Greece and abroad. She's given personal piano recitals in France (Paris), Italy (Venice, Sicily), Belgium (Antwerp), Russia (Moscow , Tchaikovsky Music School, Scriabin's Museum, and Shuvalov's Hall of Gnesin Academy) and United kingdom (Hebden Bridge international piano festival).
She has performed with the Sinfonietta Orchestra of Athens under the direction of George Aravidis the following piano concertos: Bach's Piano Concerto in D minor BWV 1052, Bach's Double Concerto in C minor BWV 1060, Bach's Double Concerto in C minor BWV 1062 and Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos No. 10. She has also recorded for the Greek National Radio.
She is currently studying Greek Literature in the National University of Athens.
